and Copy-editing: A Guide for Proofreaders
. You can find full details on the following pages. But
first, a little bit about me.
Since 1986 I have worked in publishing as a proofreader, copy-editor, project manager and tutor/mentor, for a variety of clients in both academic and trade publishing, as well as directly with authors on developing their work.
More recently my focus has been on training, for clients including the Publishing Training Centre, Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Pearson Education, HarperCollins, Publishing Scotland, the Scottish Qualifications Authority and Bloomsbury Publishing, as well as businesses such as Standard Life, the Mental Welfare Commission of Scotland, Healthcare Improvement Scotland, Norgine Pharmaceuticals and Baillie Gifford.
I am co-author with Gillian Clarke of the Publishing Training Centre’s distance learning course Essential Proofreading
.
I am a founder member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (now the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading) and was for many years a mentor in proofreading and copy-editing on their mentoring scheme.
An interesting aspect of my project management work (for Blackwell Publishers) was being commissioned to create and set copy-editing and project management tests, then to mark them and give feedback on the applicants and mentor them through their first jobs.
In all matters, my focus is on enjoyable learning!
